Frenectomy
Frenectomy
Most people have a strong of muscle (frenum) that attaches the lip to the gum between their teeth. In many patients, this is not a problem, but in some cases, recession, excessive tooth spacing, and ultimately tooth loss can occur. Some orthodontic patients have a problem with relapse (return to pre-orthodontic alignment) if the frenum is not modified. A frenectomy is a simple, quick and comfortable procedure that permanently stops further damage caused by the muscle tension. The frenum is gently pushed into the correct position, and in most cases, sutures and pain medication are not necessary.
